Artist description
Here's a hot band from India that plays the coolest rock you've ever heard. We've seen what happens when rock bands go Indian but we've never seen Indian spiritualists going the rock n'roll way. How cool is Frost? These guys actually played a concert on the highest plateau in the world in front of 10,000 people at Ladakh in the North Indian Himalayas in the middle of winter!!! |

Artist History
a. The singles: In 1996, Amod recorded 2 singles viz. 'Conjured World' and 'Tattooed Remains' that defined the style of Mystic Frost music. b. The first album: 'Ripchord Moksha' has 14 kick ass tracks ranging from progressive heavy rock to dreamy spoken word music. Listen to it online, buy a copy and even post your own personal review of it! c. The new album: Mystic Frost have just unleashed their second album 'Indivisual'. It's packed with 15 original tracks, and includes songs such as 'Dragonfly' and 'Human Being' that display a new level of lyrical as well as musical maturity. The progressive nature of composition is retained throughout the album - whether it is the polyrhythm in 'Mr. Nobody', the changing time signatures in 'The first Amphibian' or the syncopation in 'Synesthesia', the musical style of the band has evolved into something that's ultra-progressive, yet superbly melodic and powerful at the same time. Amod Dange - vocals and guitars Uses Fender Stratocaster guitars, Zoom effects, Marshall amps, and a set of thick vocal cords. Inspired by the lyrics of songwriters such as Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen, Amod started writing lyrics much before he knew how to hold a guitar. In his late teens however, the music of bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Soundgarden urged him to pick up a guitar and unleash the riffs that were playing havoc in his mind. The brain behind Mystic Frost, Amod now lives in Minneapolis where he misses his favorite Indian Kingfisher beer. Sanjeev Pandkar - drums Uses Tama drums with Zildjian cymbals and sticks and no metronome. The most prolific musician in the band, Sanjeev sings, plays guitar, drums, bass and flute with equal ease. He lives in both Mumbai and Pune and is by far the busiest rock musician on the west coast. Between gigs and his job as an A&R man for an Internet-based record company, how he squeezes time to teach music on weekends is a huge mystery. His favorite beer is the one that's on the house.Anand Kulkarni - bass Uses a Squire bass and half of the total space on stage. Anand is also a language translator and is currently on an assignment in France. In 1996, Amod called him to ask if he could borrow his bass guitar and joked that he would like it if a player came with it. Anand, who was a singer and guitar player then, not only took bass playing seriously, but proved to be a surprisingly reliable bandmate. His favorite beer is Foster's Australian.Ramnath Anantharam - lead guitar Uses a new guitar every second week and is constantly trying out new gear. He once made his own distortion pedal which looked like a large insect with legs protruding from the sides, and called it the "Spider". Ram played all the solos on Ripchord Moksha in one day, without any practice whatsoever. He is also a software engineer and now lives in Singapore. Ram is the only one in the band who prefers water to beer.Derek Julien - Lead guitarUses Carvin guitars, Zoom and tc-electronic effects, Peavey amps, and an overgrown forefingernail for that unique "pick as you pluck" style of playing. Derek is arguably India's finest guitar player, and its most experienced one without a doubt. Being an excellent sound engineer himself, Derek's galaxy of guitar sounds and his mastery over the instrument immediately put the band at a great advantage when he agreed to play guitar on "Indivisual". He smokes hand-rolled Capstan cigarettes and has no special preference about the beer he drinks. |

Press Reviews
"The album reflects on the maturity the lead singer has and this album can only be thoroughly be appreciated with the lyrics sheet in hand. The album kicks off with "Innerface" a song about introspection and has wonderful lyrics as most of the songs. Other songs which are a must-listen are "Neutralized", "Nightmare", "Cruel Kind" and "Escape from Reality", all of which have very amazing lyrics to them. The sing-along song for the ones who'd like to match their vocal abilities to that of Amod should listen to "Hollow in my Head" and "Monkey in the Well". Their sound is not heavy nor is it fast so all you death metal freaks stay away 'cos you're gonna be disappointed, but it is a very good listen anyway and there is a helluva lot of pain in the lyrics! The album artwork is also very remarkable and not simple like all in Indian albums and once you see it you'll be bound to pick it up seeing the cover itself". http://www.metalindia.8m.com/"Overall Indivisual is an excellent album, one of the best one can hear from an Indian band not just in music and theme, but also production and finer details like artwork. It looks classy, it sounds classy, and the music is classy. I loved Hardship of Fools and Human Being!" http://www.gigpad.com |
