Artist description
Rufus Proffit grew up on Chicago's south side to the sounds of the rhythm and blues that spoke to the passions and experiences of his youth. He emulated Marvin Gaye's smooth style and sexual attraction, Donny Hathoway's spiritual deliverand inspirational message, and Stevie Wonder's musicianship and wide audience appeal. His one female influence is Chaka Khan. Her dynamic performances, explosive vocal ability and insight into human nature are his idea of the consummate vocal artist. Through his performances in many Chicago clubs over the years he has developed his own blend of soul. His collaboration with Peek & Pearson, composers, has resulted in a dark sultry fusion of contemporary pop and traditional soul. Rufus, who has written the lyrics for the songs, reflects his own unique take on the world-one of enthusiasm, irony and humor. |
