Artist History
Wars of Winter are from Port Saunders Newfoundland, and were formed in 1999. Currently there are two members, Rick Massie and Glen OŽKeefe. Since then they have recorded one Demo with 4 tracks on it (over 27 minutes in length), and have written one complete concept album, and currently have about 5 songs completed for a second album. There a certainly no lack of ideas, as the band continues to write and record. Keep an eye out for them...... |

Ok, let me first say that this is a re-recorded version of what is shown on here on the site. The songs "A New Vision", "The Arrival", and "The Epiphany" have all been re-recorded and are much improved from their original versions. However, I still think that the production could be better if they were a signed band, but that is beside the point. I guess a good description of WoW would be epic, doomy metal somewhat in the vein of Opeth or older Katatonia. Rick's vocals also have made a big step up from the first demo in my opinion, especially the clean vocals. There seems to be a large influence from the clean vox of Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and Vintersorg in some parts. As far as the new material is concerned there is a short, nice instrumental "...Of Silence", "Two Moons 'til Autumn", and "Lamb to the Slaughter". The songwriting has really improved as well, as shown by these songs. "Two Moons" beginning really has a good Morningrise-era Opeth vibe going for it. "Lamb" has a more upbeat sound to it than their other material and sounds really good as well. In conclusion, if you're looking for a new band to check out...I'd recommend checking out WoW. With the rate of progression they are going on from demo to demo, we all should be in for a treat with their next batch of material but in the mean time, this should serve as an excellent introduction to the band. The mp3s are up on mp3.com so there is no excuse for not checking them out!
