Artist History
The singles: In 1996, Amod recorded 2 singles viz. 'Conjured World' and 'Tattooed Remains' that defined the style of Mystic Frost music. When Amod, Sanjeev and Ram teamed up in late 1996, they called themselves "Mystic Frost". Soon Anand Kulkarni was added to the lineup and the band started recording original material right away. The first album: 'Ripchord Moksha' has 14 kickass tracks ranging from progressive heavy rock to dreamy spoken word music. Listen to it online, buy a copy and even post your own personal review of it! http://www.cdbaby.com/view/mysfro The second album: Mystic Frost unleashed their second album 'Indivisual' in August 2000. It's packed with 15 original tracks, and includes songs such as 'Dragonfly' and 'Human Being' that display a new level of lyrical as well as musical maturity. The progressive nature of composition is retained throughout the album - whether it is the polyrythm in 'Mr. Nobody', the changing time signatures in 'The first Amphibian' or the syncopation in 'Synesthesia'. The musical style of the band has evolved into something that's ultra-progressive, yet superbly melodic and powerful at the same time. Amod Dange - vocals and guitarsUses Fender Stratocaster guitars, Zoom effects, Marshal amps, and a set of thick vocal cords. Inspired by the lyrics of songwriters such as Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Steve Harris, Amod started writing lyrics much before he knew how to hold a guitar. In his late teens however, the music of bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Soundgarden urged him to pick up a guitar and unleash the riffs that were playing havoc in his mind. The brain behind Mystic Frost, Amod now lives in Minneapolis where he misses his favorite Indian Kingfisher beer. Sanjeev Pandkar - drumsUses Tama drums with Zildjian cymbals and sticks and no metronome. The most prolific musician in the band, Sanjeev sings, plays guitar, drums, bass and flute with equal ease. He lives in both Mumbai and Pune and is by far the busiest rock musician on the west coast. Between gigs and his job as an A&R man for an Internet-based record company, how he squeezes time to teach music on weekends is a huge mystery. His favorite beer is the one that's on the house.Anand Kulkarni - bassUses a Squire bass and half of the total space on stage. Anand is also a language translator and is currently on an assignment in France. In 1996, Amod called him to ask if he could borrow his bass guitar and joked that he would like it if a player came with it. Anand, who was a singer and guitar player then, not only took bass playing seriously, but proved to be a surprisingly reliable bandmate. His favorite beer is Foster's Australian.Ramnath Ananthram - lead guitarUses a new guitar every second week and is constantly trying out new gear. He once made his own distortion pedal which looked like a large insect with legs protruding from the sides, and called it the "Spider". Ram played all the solos on Ripchord Moksha in one day, without any practice whatsoever. He is also a software engineer and now lives in Singapore. Ram is the only one in the band who prefers water to beer.Derek Julien - lead guitarUses Carvin guitars, Zoom and tc-electronic effects, Peavy amps, and an overgrown forefingernail for that unique "pick as you pluck" style of playing. Derek is arguably India's finest guitar player, and its most experienced one without a doubt. Being an excellent sound engineer himself, Derek's galaxy of guitar sounds and his mastery over the instrument immediately put the band at a great advantage when he agreed to play guitar on "Indivisual". He smokes hand-rolled Capstan cigarettes and has no special preference about the beer he drinks. |

Press Reviews
'Progressive' is a label that fits this four year old Pune based rock band perfectly, and not just for their music, but for their entire approach to being a band and making music. With two truly world-class releases to show for their four year career, Mystic Frost is probably best Indian example of a bunch of amazingly talented musicians doing everything right, but in the wrong country. The band is the brainchild of vocalist and guitarist Amod Dange, the songwriter-composer-producer who began writing before he knew how to hold a guitar! Inspired by the lyrical abilities of the likes of Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Steve Harris, and the music of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Soundgarden, Amod's artistic expression is a happy union of great songwriting, and hard driving music. Mystic Frost released its debut album 'Ripchord Moksha' in 1998 12,000 feet above sea level! Playing on the rooftop of the world', the world's highest altitude plateau in the Himalayas, the band played to a staggering 10,000 strong crowd that braved sub-zero temperatures to listen to them. 'Going where no band has gone before' came naturally to the band as it decided to market its album on the Internet on the CDBaby site, a step that got them to benchmark their music with international underground acts and win themselves an international following. 'Indivisual', their second album, is a recent release that features Pune's godfather of guitar Derek Julien on lead guitars. With 15 diverse tracks displaying musical and lyrical maturity, in addition to excellent production work, Mystic Frost has come up with a self-produced work that is rivaled only by their own previous work in class. Sanjeev Pandkar's complex but restrained playing and Anand Kulkarni's strong bass playing make this an album an all-round strong work that shall set benchmarks for years to come. http://www.gigpad.com/musicm/bands/band_profile.asp?art_code=ind-mysf |
