    My works are for electro acoustic percussion and interactive computer music system. My primary venue is the classical concert hall, although I have occasionally ventured into less formal settings.

    Artist History
    Patrick Long is a summa cum laude graduate of Syracuse University. He received both hisMasters and Doctoral degrees in composition from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.He has studied composition with Andrew Waggoner, Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, Christopher Rouse, Joseph Schwantner and David Liptak, percussion with Michael Bull and John Beck, and computer music with Allan Schindler. He has received commissions and performances by diverse artists and ensembles, including marimba soloist Andrew Harnsberger, Ned Corman of the Commission Project, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Percussion Ensemble, the Timaeus Chamber Ensemble, the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Dance Department, the Eastman School of Music and the Air de Cour Ensemble. An active percussionist as well as a composer, his current work centers around the creation and performance of music involving live electronics and improvisation. He has performed these live electronic compositions in many venues, both as a soloist, and as a member of the Timaeus Chamber Ensemble.In 2001, four of his works will be included on CD releases. "Strange Loops" for percussion quintet, which has received nearly 100 performance worldwide, will be recorded by the Radford University Percussion Ensemble. "Smoke of the Ghost" for solo marimba will be recorded by Andrew Harnsberger, "Summer Nocturne" for Saxophone and Tape will be recorded by Gail Levinsky, and "Ontology" for electronic percussion and interactive computer music system will be included on a new CD compilation released by Syracuse University Recordings.Dr. Long has taught at the Eastman School of Music and the Syracuse University Setnor School of Music, where he was voted teacher of the year in 2000. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Composition, Music Technology and Music Theory at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
