Artist History Hans Jorgen Fjellestad (composer-improviser-video artist) studied composition and improvisation with George Lewis at UCSD and piano with Krzysztof Brzuza. _________________________________________________________ Fjellestad has composed for film, video, theater, dance and has presented his music and video art in the US, Europe and Brazil. He is active in the Southern California music scene, performing regularly as a solo improviser-pianist, and with improvised electroacoustic music duo, Donkey (w/ guitarist Damon Holzborn), and acoustic improvisation trio, Proving Grounds (w/ flutist Janet Parish-Whittaker and guitarist Damon Holzborn). Fjellestad is a founding member of the Trummerflora collective [www.trummerflora.com], dedicated to the creative music scene in San Diego, and co-creator of Zu Casa [www.zucasa.com], an online laboratory for exhibition, performance and promotion of experimental music and improvisation worldwide. Fjellestad has performed and/or recorded with Muhal Richard Abrams, George Lewis, Peter Kowald, Dana Reason, Matt Ingalls, Andrea Polli, Carol Genetti, DJ Marcus B, Jason Robinson, Jakob Riis, Anthony Burr, Marcos Fernandes, Marcelo Radulovich, Scott Walton, Mike Keneally, Ellen Weller, Alan Lechusza, Nathan Hubbard, Ultra 7, Wormhole Effect, Lower Left with Simone Forti, Jonathan Glasier and The San Diego Art Ensemble. _________________________________________________________ Fjellestad was videographer/editor for the public art installation "Interactive Information Kiosk" by George Lewis, commissioned by the San Diego Arts and Culture Commission with support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. Fjellestad has also directed/edited video projects for John Lydon, Soundgarden, Toe, PM Dawn, Randy Pile, Phunk Junkeez, Melissa Smedley, The Flys, Butch Wax Duo, Stan Lee, Clay Walker, The Monkees, Terence Trent D'Arby, and Janus Stark. His work has been broadcast on MTV, VH1, ESPN and TNN, and shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art (La Jolla), Center for Research in Computing & the Arts (UCSD), California Center for the Arts (Escondido), The Werepad (San Francisco), Most Significant Bytes Festival (Ohio), Sushi Performance Gallery (San Diego), "Stop a Minute" Film Festival (UK), and the S‹o Paulo International Short Film Festival (Brazil). Fjellestad lives in San Diego with his wife, Line Arndt. _________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________ Damon Holzborn (composer-improviser-web designer) studied improvisation with George Lewis and guitar with Celin Romero at UCSD. He also studied composition with Frederic Rzewski, Brian Ferneyhough, Will Ogden and Rand Steiger. _________________________________________________________ Holzborn performs regularly with improvised electroacoustic music duo, Donkey (w/ keyboardist Hans Fjellestad), and acoustic improvisation trio, Proving Grounds (w/ flutist Janet Parish-Whittaker and pianist Hans Fjellestad), and extreme guitar ensemble, League of Assholes (led by Marcelo Radulovich).
