Artist History
Philip has been a professional guitarist for 15 years. He holds a degree in Classical Guitar from Stetson University. He commands both classical and electric guitars. Currently Philip is in his fifth year as Guitar Professor at Sweet Briar, Randolph Macon and Lynchburg Colleges. Philip has studied with the best guitarists in the world: Stephen Robinson (whom Andres Segovia called "one of the greatest guitarists of our times"), Classical guitar legend Pepe Romero, Yale's Ben Verderey, Cuban virtuoso Ric Cobo, Adam and Bruce Holzman, Mark Delprioria (Manhattan School of Music), The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and David Russell. Philip studied privately with composer Harold Blanchard whose "New Earth Sonata" features Quincey Jones, Hubert Laws, Chick Corea and William Kanningeiser. Philip is a founding member of The Stetson Guitar Quartet. On the electric Philip plays with the original folk/rock group Justin Thyme. He has opened for The Jerry Garcia Band, Hall and Oats, The Kingston Trio, John McCuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Cheasapeake. |
