Artist History
Catalyst was formed in December 1999. Before Catalyst was formed there were other attempts of a band by Remington Meeks and Dustin Alcock in 1998. Remington started planning on making a band with knowledge unknown of what kind of music they would play. After a period of around 2 weeks they decided on having Seth Mehan on drums, Dustin Alcock on guitar, Josh Roe also on guitar, and Remington on bass. There was no singer yet. After a couple times of practicing (which is all there ever would be) they decided on the name Hazard. Hazard later broke up due to not practicing.Remington and Dustin still keep working together, writing songs and goofing around on instruments. Also by this time Eric Fleenor was added to the band as another guitarist. On Halloween of 1999 Remington was having a party and his dad's old band got together and played. Before the party came around that day Ian Thompson was called up and asked to drum at the part so they could just goof around. Later that night, without vocals still, Ian, Dustin, Eric, and Remington played a few songs including "My Own Worst Enemy" ~Lit,"Song 2" ~Blur, "Freak" ~Silverchair, and "Anthem For Y2K" ~Silverchair. Though did really craptastic, the group seen they maybe able to form a good band. That’s when Catalyst started to form.A few weeks later Remington and Dustin (Eric fading out of the band due to distance away) got together over at Ian's and setup their equipment. Later on that night Jason Leon and Koda Woodward came over to try to sing. Jason showed up first and we ran through a couple songs which didn’t sound bad so we decided to just keep Jason, Koda later becoming the "King Roadie" of catalyst. The band spent weeks trying to come up with names including Social Destruction, Hazard (again), and a few other that have been forgotten over the many months. Finally the word Catalyst came up between Ian and Jason and it just stuck with the band.In March, Kevin Malburg was now in the band and playing some awesome lead guitar. The band already started some songs and was quickly growing since Kevin had more experience and more creativity in his music. The first song Catalyst produced was "Alone," which was written before Kevin joined the band. Then with Kevin's help and creativity, "Change Your Ways," and "She Cries" were written within the first month of Kevin's arrival. The band slowed down and went about a month before making new material due to playing places and needing more cover songs for them to take a good 2 hours of playing time. After things calmed down, they began to work on more songs that should led into a full CD soon. |
