Artist description
Christine's backing band "The Red Letter Day" features violist Monica Guenter, cellist Leanne Zacharias and guitarist Stephen Carroll (The Weakerthans, Painted Thin). Red Letter Day's sparse, lush orchestral string arrangements compliment Christine's distinct dark and lovely vocals and haunting, evocative songs. |

Press Reviews
Because she doesn't record for a major label or a high-powered indie like Nettwerk, it's almost certain that you've never heard of Christine Fellows. And that's too bad because her independent debut, 2 Little Birds, is just about the most jaw-droppingly beautiful record to bubble out of the underground since Cat Power's Moon Pix. Fellows adorns her sparse, downbeat originals with cellos, violas, and violins, which should make for an overdose of unadulterated magic. - The Geogia StraightMs. Fellows produces a lush, almost orchestral music that manages to be both comforting and revealing. Her voice, whether soft or soaring, retains a warmth and a soulfulness capable of entrancing even the most cynical of listeners, and her songs with their unhurried, graceful melodies and idiosyncratic lyrics continue to flicker about the mind long after they have finished playing. Christine Fellows has been Winnipeg's best kept secret for long enough. It's high time the rest of us had a chance to experience music as hauntingly beautiful as this. - Colm Ward, PopMatters.com |
