Artist description
"Power Pop with a moody side" is how one critic describes BE on their newest release, Thistupidream. Strong on melody with a decided millennial Brit-pop sensibility, this American band's sound and energy have been compared to the Beatles, R.E.M., Radiohead, U2, Guided By Voices, Crowded House, Coldplay, and Pink Floyd - but BE manage to constantly remind you that they are their own band with each twist and turn. |

Press Reviews
- REVIEWS OF THISTUPIDREAM -
"The quartet manages to find a ground whereby they can write the songs they want to write - Don't expect standard alt-rock or modern rock chords and bridges and solos here. They take the basic song structure and expand it to fit their own particular view of the universe - Yet, for all its differences with pop/rock, BE's music is still somehow anthemic. Most of these songs would sound great in a club or a stadium. You can picture yourself dancing or pumping an angry fist in either situation. BE. "Thistupidream." Easily one of the better albums to come out of indie music this year."
Privy Magazine
“BE deserve a nomination or two in the Best of 2001 Dallas Music Awards for their exceptional work on this album; it is soooo good! I can’t slobber and drool about it enough.” (Thistupidream was a nominee for “CD of the Year” in the 2001 DallasMusic Awards)
DallasMusic.com
“Similar to the best of Radiohead and R.E.M. - Modern rock like this is simply beautiful -Thistupidream is introspective, worldly, modest and bold and fittingly deserves everyone's attention. It's the kind of release that should grant this heretofore-unknown band some world renown and recognition.”
Music-Reviewer.com
“Melodic, poppy, but loud, BE's Thistupidream is an emo-esque warm pop record, with lush, soothing songs surrounding guitar-driven bursts of energy. Soft, fragile vocals stay strong, shedding their skin to make sure you can feel everything they're singing, but keeping enough distance to protect itself. This is a beautifully crafted, well-executed simmering pop record.”
In Music We Trust
“Power pop with a moody side - BE knows how to craft some seriously intense songs. Craft, however, is just the beginning. There is an emotional intensity that is just as impressive. Most bands master one or the other…BE is pretty damned good at both.”
Aiding and Abetting Zine
“A damn fine album - BE have crafted an interesting, diverse and intelligent record that is nonetheless bursting with potential hits - a worthwhile effort from a versatile, talented band - I'd much rather hear one of their songs cranking out of an SUV than the Goo Goo Dolls' or Third Eye Blind's latest slice o' cheese.”
SPLENDID Magazine
“This alt-rock band has a sharp, accessible and original sound - nothing but bad luck could prevent this band from hitting the rock charts big-time.”
theglobalmuse.com
“The next great band - This is the kind of album you want to be the first person to discover, the work of a band hitting its stride and giving you a gift carved out of a moment of its highest maturity.”
Joe Sutliff Sanders, CD Street
“BE creates a complex sound performed by solid musicians with - get this - a sense of melody! - Treat your ears to the refined Brit pop/retro power pop hybrid gem that is ‘Confession.’ ‘Goodnight Goodnight’ blends killer guitar and vocal hooks for a sonic cohesiveness that packs a punch - this disc showcases a band that is a refreshing departure from the substandard pop bands disguised as lo-fi saviors and the dime-a-dozen Pantera/Limp rip offs - Do check them out.”
Harder Beat magazine, Dallas
“BE demonstrates that the British influence has forever left its mark on America, but the results don't have to smack of reheated porridge. The Dallas quartet's latest, Thistupidream, merges tried-and-true styles from across the pond with Collegetown, USA, dorm-room innocence. Tracks like "Confession" bring back the pop polish of the Monkees and wring it through a distortion pedal, while "The Corporal's Daughter" draws light to the band's vivid harmonies, which bounce through layers of chord progressions and airy moments that tingle at times and jingle at others.”
New Times Broward-Palm Beach, Florida
“The sound is tight, polished and easy - a dark rock rooted in history from the Beatles to REM. Good song writing - good arranging - good playing - it’s full, you get the picture. It’s classic, it’s new, it’s original and haunting. Great band - I wouldn’t be surprised to see big things in their future!”
Real Time Records reviews
“Their brand of alternative guitar rock keeps the pulse light and moody, with splashes of lush rhythm guitar crunch added for tonal color - strong on melody with a decided millennial Brit-pop sensibility. The pose is more languid than aggressive, honing in on dreamy, introspective lyrics - although at times the band shows they are capable of rocking out. For a homemade album, Thistupidream sounds remarkable and demonstrates that BE is poised to make a grab at mainstream recognition.”
All Music Guide
“Thistupidream is an album teetering on perfection. Its ten tracks threaten to transform themselves into a musical epic at nearly every turn - this is a very daring album, one filled with all sorts of surprises - BE cannot be touched - Everyone who's a fan of brilliant pop music should find a lot to enjoy here - some of the most moving and phenomenal music put down on a disc in quite a while. Take a listen and see. BE should definitely be a band to watch. Thistupidream should be an album in everyone's collection.”
PopMatters
“Hyped up pop music that's energetic and soothing all at the same time - Their music sticks in your head and won't come out and you'll like it that way.”
Music Scene – Indie Eyes
“I must have listened to this CD a thousand times - Each time I noticed something else interesting and exciting. Each time I liked BE’s Thistupidream better and better. This is an album that grows on the listener - it kept me coming back for more. The disc took them three years to make, but was well worth the time and effort. BE’s Thistupidream is an album that exposes a band that is ready to make an impression the music world.”
FM Sound – Indie Scene
“Brought to you by the state that gave us shining stars, Flickerstick, Texas' BE are ready. Melancholy, melodic pop - the bastard conglomaration of Radiohead, Coldplay and Train. Stylish, artistically savvy, all the elements of success are here. The strengths apparent in (these songs) are a pure testament to the group's pop marketability and chart-able appeal. For that, they cement Texas as the home of the next music explosion.”

Curtain Club, Dallas, TX: 01-13-02 (Cool Cities USA.com)
It's not very often that you wander into a local club (in Dallas that is) and hear a band as refreshing and original as BE. Their sound ranges from hook laden pop to trippy rock, all bound together by 3 brothers and a long time friend. They touch on a wide array of influences, from the Beatles, to Pink Floyd, to Radiohead, but manage to constantly remind you that they are their own band with each twist and turn.
From a songwriting stand point BE is absolutely incredible! You never know what to expect next, but in the end they tie it all together perfectly. They're especially good at exploiting a great lyric or riff just enough so you're craving more, and then singing it in your sleep hours later. An extremely mature band, BE's stage show backs everything that their music is, energetic when needed but subdued when the time is right. They don't overdue they're act or their music, they write great songs and play them with the intensity and passion they deserve.
In a scene full of heavy, scream happy bands it's so encouraging to see a band like BE. They represent what a rock band is supposed to be, 4 talented guys who truly enjoy playing great music.
Along with a great live show, BE offers an exceptional album, Thistupidream, at a time when albums have taken a distant back seat to singles. From start to finish Thistupidream keeps you wanting more, just as the band does live.
The End, Nashville, TN: 02-15-02 (The Nashville Scene – Critic’s Picks)
Luna Halo/Joshua/BE - Those up for a night of reverberating melodic guitar pop should head to The End for a trio of fresh young rockers - The band to show up for, though, are Dallas-based dream-poppers BE, who mix pounding, exhilarating rock with mellower sound explorations. They're an exciting act, not to be missed.
Nightflying Magazine
It's Friday night in Fayetteville, Arkansas, a thriving college town full of natural beauty, lush green hills, and Dickson Street, the center of local wildlife culture. I'm watching a performance of a fine group of musicians I have seen many times over the past eight years. The venue is packed and fans are stacked SRO from the front of the stage to the back of the room. The crowd is moving rhythmically to the music and mouthing the lyrics, which they know well. The lyrics are thought-provoking, intelligent, and often introspective. The music is tight, melodic, and at once atomospheric and energetic. The players work the crowd and blend together well, showcasing a visually theatrical sensibility with a unique style of progressive rock. The band has toured extensively in support of its four independently-released albums. They have received accolades in the press from coast to coast. They are Fayetteville's own BE...BE's label of "progressive rock" is perhaps, misleading. Those who have written about the band have resorted to this category in an attempt to describe a unique sound which transcends preconceived labels...Indeed, BE's music defies categorization. It is what it is. But suffice it to say that those who follow the band seem to know what to expect from them, almost instinctively, even if the music cannot be easily defined...BE has matured and refined a sound that is unmistakably theirs and is instantly recognizable if heard...The title, "Avalanche," comes from the second verse of "Gardenia" and is also meant as a metaphor for the dynamic and volatile nature of BE's music and for life where, as Talley put it, "things can fall into or out of place instantly"...I believe that "Avalanche" is BE's best work to date. Sonically it is rich and textured and has an extended dynamic range...The whole record makes for a great listen and should serve as a first step for those of you who have never heard the band, before you back catalog to their previous stuff which, believe me, you will want to do.
