TIME OUT:(Peter Paphides)with reference to Alpha and Omega (Dub Plate Selection Vol 1' Greensleeves: With guest vocalists Nishka and Daddy Teacha, Alpha and Omega sound inevitably more focused: 'One woman Show' ruminates on the tension between Rastafianism and materialism with stately elegance while Daddy Teacha's guidance of 'Under Contention'vies with the finest early '80s work of Black Uhuru. The spirit of studio,1, it seems, is alive and kicking in Plymouth of all places. Scene Magazine Plymouth 2001 (Bazz)Kaya Roots/Teacha (Tramps, Plymouth)Having recently changed name from Teacha and Racial Unity, the four piece reggae outfit proved to a capacity audiencethat there's more to reggae than Bob Marley covers. the recent 16 track demo, 'Babylon is Falling Down' recorded at Teacha'sown, local studios, provided the agenda for the soiree in question. With song titles like 'Gimme The Bud' and 'Babylon is Falling Down'it's easy to see where their motivation comes from. Teacha's lyrics don't call for illusory world revolution, more the contemplation of personal action and demand for justification. With, as their name suggests, the odd ganja reference. Mechanically constructed Dub, fused with upbeat ska and roots, the presented sound is varied and well rounded. A recent band restructure seems to have initiated a reaching out for bigger and better things(as if a sold out appearance at Tramps wasn't enough.) Those who braved the sticky heat will hopefully experience the ''I was there factor'' in time to come.
