Artist description
No.226 use influences as far ranging as Frank Sinatra to Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd to Pearl Jam to fuse different genres, arrangements and instrumentation into their songs. Always offering the listener new layers of sound and emotion to discover with each play, they have been described as intense, melodic, textural and realistic. No.226 believe song writing is about pushing the listener and musician to new boundaries; taking what they feel comfortable with and distorting it enough to cause a questioning of what they're hearing and then letting them relax back into the new status quo. And so this cycle is repeated and intensified in each song, recording by recording, performance by performance. Song writing is handled by the whole band with Browne/Goff/Yaeger providing the foundation, and no style or approach is considered out of scope. No.226 live shows replace some of the subtlety found on their recordings with naked emotion, energy and a tension that constantly strains under the surface, being set loose only when the singer demands it. Instruments are rotated freely and the band play with an aggression that augments Brad as he lays his soul on the line, giving the audience a view into his lyrical scenes and ultimately into his own psyche. The use of upright bass and accordion and their insistence that they wear suits regardless of dive bar or concert hall, remind the audience they are listening to music that owes as much to the nightclubs of the 1950's as it does to the clubs of today.

Artist History
No.226 started as a side project. Jon and Brad's other bands had strict confines and they were looking for a creative outlet for good solid songwriting, in musical forms that their other projects would not permit. When a CD of demos called 'giant killers' gained national and local attention, they soon realised that the honesty and feel that they had effortlesly captured were striking a chord with listeners. The decision to focus on assembling a live band became the new focus, as other projects were effectively shelved. David Browne was the first to enter the picture in the summer of 2000 via a local music publication and quicky became a core member of the song writing team. After a few stuggling shows and personel changes they solidified on the current line-up of: Brad Yaeger (vocals), Jon Goff (guitar, piano, Hammond), David Browne (upright bass, accordion, guitar), Colby Imus (guitar, backing vocals) and Mike Welke (drums, percussion, backing vocals). The band stabilized in the winter/spring of 2001 and have become a staple in the clubs and venues of their hometown of Seattle WA, building up a fiercely loyal following of fans looking for something a little different from the "Seattle scene". |

Press Reviews
from a recent fan email : "I just wanted to let you know that these songs are, simply put, fucking amazing!!! I honestly think that "Ivy Dream" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, the guitar work on "Waiting For Her" is killer, and "Need To Talk" is probably one of the most creative pieces out there with the perfect chord changes at the perfect timings. Anyway, I just hope you guys get what you deserve on these, don't lose that magic touch!" from Bodeen's Place Radio: "A really nice melody highlights this one. Strong voice is kept mellow, and goes perfectly with the hypnotic guitar lick. More country songs should sound like this!" from Folk You radio: "there's something pure here, in the melody and harmonies, that'll win you over. great lonesome feel."" |
