Artist History
Formed in 1993, the main purpose of AVERNUS was to create music rich in emotion and feeling. Late 1993, AVERNUS releases the demo "A Delicate Tracery Of Red". This demo was a crude lesson in death/doom. Early 1994, the demo "Sadness" is released and has since sold very well worldwide. The tape gathered enough attention to feature their next composition, "Godlessness", on Metal Blade Records Metal Massacre 12, which gave the band a strong following throughout the world. While "Sadness" and "Godlessness" combined more slow, moody and ambient elements, the band decided to do more. They expanded their multifaceted sound by usuing clean vocals as well as incorporating more Celtic, Arabic and Gothic elements into the hard edge already evident in the band. Soon to follow, their third demo "A Farewell To Eden" was released. Earning rave reviews, applauding their originality, AVERNUS inked a contract with MIA/Olympic Records, and started work on their first full length album. "Of The Fallen" was released in February 1997. The record got great reviews worldwide from such major publications as Metal Maniacs, even though the band were not and are still not completely happy with it. The band, uncontent with its contract at MIA, split mutually from the label. Independant again, AVERNUS recorded two new songs for a promo cassette to give out free to fans. Over 500 copies were distributed at the Milwaukee Metalfest in 1997, where the band performed to a huge crowd of attendees who obviously liked what they heard. The crowd response was so phenomenal, the band was asked back onstage by the stage managers for an encore! AVERNUS recorded a new three song promotional CD for labels in 1998, but has since grown away from these songs and they arent used much longer. Two of the three songs from these sessions appear on the demo comp. "Where The Sleeping Shadows Lie" as well as many other AVERNUS demo songs, released in the fall of 2000 on Cursed Productions. AVERNUS have composed a plethora of new material in recent months and have recently went into the studio to put some of these songs down on tape. Featuring the heaviest and most extreme sounds to come from the band, AVERNUS hope to use this material to secure a record label to release their second full length. AVERNUS has shared the stage with local, as well as national, acts including Type O Negative, In Flames, Sunshine Blind, Nevermore, Deicide, Opeth, Macabre, Cradle Of Filth, Moonspell, Katatonia, The Misfits, Novembers Doom and many more! With the new material, AVERNUS still continues to expand and progress. Most importantly, to write from within, with feeling, emotion and sincerity, which makes AVERNUS a traumatically powerful and cathartic listening experience.... |
