Artist History
At age ten I discovered my passion for music. Rock and pop artists of the 80’s inspired me to learn the guitar, write my first songs, and play in bands. My earliest solo recordings were simply created on a home tape deck. Working with various bands led me into recording studios and more advanced home recording devices. At that time, the early 90’s, I was very active in the songwriting process and recording production. ~~~~~ I developed my guitar abilities for several years before transitioning to the bass - now my primary instrument. As I became better known in a number of musical circles, I found myself performing in a variety of settings, causing my focuses on songwriting, arranging, and recording to wane. However, my bass playing skills were developing technically and stylistically, and I was presented with numerous challenges to achieve higher performance standards. Exploration of fretless, acoustic, and five-string basses provided unique flavors for the many live settings in which I performed. ~~~~~ Employing my fine bass and guitar talents, plus having developed keyboard and MIDI programming skills, I incorporated my new love for jazz, new age, and fusion into a fresh wave of solo compositions in the mid-to-late 90’s. Intense studies at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey exposed me to the creative possibilities of Latin and classical music and enabled me to attain knowledge of digital recording techniques. Pencil went to paper, sound onto tape and disk - the seeds of an album were born. ~~~~~ Now, at age twenty-five, elements of every genre that I have been fond of throughout my life have been captured on After Five. My debut CD represents not only five years of well thought-out compositions, but also the laborious efforts to maintain an active musical life despite my current 9-to-5 career. I have devoted countless hours to finishing a work that I am extremely proud of, and the enjoyment each listener feels will be one of the most satisfying accomplishments of my life.--- Mike |
