HELLO TO EVERYONE!! And
WELCOME to my site. For those of you who are expecting Art Malcom, the Folk
Singer, he can be found at the bottom of this page. OK, I don't have multiple
personalities or anything like that. It's still the same me. I have just decided
that my real musical love has always been classical, and after thirty years of
punching out ballads and protest songs, I wanted to get back to my roots. So, in addition to posting folk/accoustic/easy-listening/whatever songs, I will
be offering up more Bach and a few other composers as time allows.
But a word about my technique: I play few of these pieces all at once. I
record the one to eight tracks directly into my computer, using an Audio-Technica ATR-20
microphone, which is placed directly at the sound hole. Then, using Magix "Audio
Studio" software, I assemble the tracks. Finally, I use Syntrillium's
"Cool Edit 2000" to clean up any pops or hisses, and to convert the WAV files into mp3.
Oh, and almost last but certainly not least, my guitar is a Seagull
S.M.(12), and for these recordings I used Martin strings. (And I sometimes do use alternate tuning of the guitar. There are certain passages of Bach that can be real bears without
permitting a few "indulgences"!)
Finally, I seem to get the most faithful renditions of this music by listening with Winamp set to the "soft rock" equalizer preset. I also listen through Altec Lansing speakers (with subwoofer.)
As always, I thank you for listening, and I hope that you will leave
constructive comments in my guest book.
