Always at the top of people's lists of favorite piano trios, the Opus 8 trio by Johannes Brahms is one of the most widely played works in the repertoire. Brahms was only 21 years old when he composed this trio, his first chamber work, in 1854. Only a short time before, poverty had forced him to write cheap compositions under assumed names and to play the piano in saloons. By 1854, however, he had won the support and friendship of such distinguished musicians as Robert and Clara Schumann, and his serious composition increased greatly. | MP3.com CD: Brahms Live - buy it!
