Phonics, a latin-based-fusion band from Kansas City,
Missouri performed throughout the midwest from
1984-1990. Bassist/composer Andy DeWitt's music
has strong melodic content, bringing to mind influences
Weather Report, Passport, Spyro Gyra, Pat Metheny,
and Steps Ahead.
Keyboardist Wayne Hawkins co-produced the 1989
release "Louder Than Words", which features 10 members
of Phonics in various lineups. Wayne has released
two outstanding trio recordings on his own in
the 1990's.
When original Phonics drummer Mike Maggi passed
away in 1997, the other four original members,
reunited to record "China Doll", which was a favorite
ballad of Mike's. We dedicate the recording to his
memory.
