Soprano Karen Elizabeth Urlie appears frequently in opera and concert in the Northwest
region. Her recently performed operatic roles include Barbarina in the Rainier Lyric Opera's debut performance of Mozart's, Le Nozze di Figaro, conducted by Adam Stern, and the First Lady in Kitsap Opera's production of Mozart's The Magic Flute. Other performed roles include Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Suzanne from Offenbach's Robinson Crusoe, and several Gilbert and Sullivan roles, including Josephine and Leila. She has sung with the Bellevue, Tacoma, and Seattle Operas. Karen is a frequent concert and recital soloist, and in 2002/03 she will present recitals in Washington and California. In 2001, Karen was a winner of the Seattle Ladies Musical Club Award/Tour Competition and in 2002 she placed second in the Northwest Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition. Karen also joined the Bellevue Chamber Chorus this fall as guest soloist in Vivaldi’s Magnificat and the Missa Brevis in F by Mozart, and in Feburary 2002 Karen favored us with 2 VocalArts Northwest sponsored recitals. Miss Urlie continues to study with her mentor, and teacher Mr. William Eddy of Tacoma, Washington.
