SHIDOSHI
Shidoshi developed his love for electronic music while growing up in London, England during the early 80s when the Techno / Electronica genre was just beginning to gain popularity in Europe. A pianist and composer since the age of 6, Shidoshi shifted his medium to synthesizers and electronic keyboards at age 11. Influenced primarily by bands such as Depeche Mode, Dead or Alive and Tangerine Dream, Shidoshi spent most of his childhood researching and studying the various genres of electronic music – continuing to compose numerous original pieces despite many failed attempts at traditional piano lessons & the fact that he cannot read or write music.
In the mid-nineties, Shidoshi lent his talents to local Columbus electronic group PANIK KONTROL, and after a brief collaboration, began to focus more on the hip-hop/urban culture and sought to educate himself in the ways of the Hip-Hop DJ. In 1999, Shidoshi met up with and began learning the Turntablist trade from renowned Columbus DJ, JOHNNY BLAZE. At the same time, Shidoshi began experimenting with loop-based music arrangement software & produced countless loops and tracks for local DJs to use in their club mixes.
In 2000, Shidoshi established DEVIANT SEX LABS PRODUCTIONS and began representing electronic musicians, DJs / Turntablists and Urban Artists. Steadily working to develop a reputation for his new production label around the Columbus area, Shidoshi spent the next couple of years DJing and performing at numerous raves, house parties and events – many of which were arranged and hosted by DSL Productions. In 2002, his original electronic composition SEVEN VEILS (which is also featured on this MP3.com site) was slated to appear on the soundtrack for an underground film still currently under production in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
In July of 2002, Shidoshi was approached by the local Columbus, Ohio band LIVID and soon appeared to audition for the band. After a couple of live performances, Shidoshi became the newest addition to LIVID. The greatest part about DJing for a band - says Shidoshi - is when you find yourself in that rare situation where you’re working with talented musicians who keep you focused on the collaborative effort of the entire band – yet trust in you enough to give you the freedom to stand out and have what you bring to the collaboration recognized. I think I have found that in LIVID and I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to join up with them.
As for the future, Shidoshi plans to continue his work with DSL Productions and is even planning the initial concept for the DSL sister company: IRON HALO PRODUCTIONS which will represent skateboarders, stunt bikers, surfers, snowboarders and inline stunt skaters. Shidoshi plans to maintain his position behind the decks for all upcoming raves and will be beginning his tour as a guest DJ at many local strip clubs around the Columbus area in the summer of 2003. He is currently working on his first electronic music / Turntablism hybrid demo (LEFT LANE ENDS) that is scheduled for release in December of 2003. As for his plans with LIVID: I dont plan on going anywhere anytime soon. I love what I do with these guys and I often find myself just watching them do their thing and getting all into it – forgetting Im even a part of it all. They are all amazing musicians – each one of them – and Id be foolish to walk away from what Im being taught. I plan on being with LIVID as long as Im needed and I plan on using that time to develop myself into a better musician – not just on the decks, but as an individual.

Personal Influences & Interesting Facts:
* Shidoshi has had a deep adoration for Japanese culture since he began practicing martial arts in the late 80s. He has visited Japan – spending time in areas such as Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Hong Kong, Taipei and the island of Miyajima (which he has a special love for). His name itself is actually Japanese for MASTER/TEACHER and is used primarily in reference to martial arts ranking. His main interests in Japanese culture today now encompass Japanese Anime films and an occasional Sake drinking binge at his favorite Sushi bars and Hibachi restaurants.
* Shidoshi has a long-time obsession with dragons that stems from the stories he was told of them while living in London, England as a child. Beginning his fascination with Dragons, Shidoshi spent much of his time studying the Charles Dickens text THE FLIGHT OF DRAGONS. He also researches dragons in different cultures – especially within Celtic lore. His fascination runs so deep that a sect of the DSL Productions label which represents the best scratch and competition Turntablists is entitled THE DSL DRAGONS. Shidoshi is also frequently seen wearing a Japanese kanji symbol around his neck which represents DRAGON.
* Shidoshi has had a fascination with Vampires and Vampiric lore that actually led him to study Vampirism for a number of years in an almost scientific endeavor. He studied historical accounts of so-called Vampires and the possibility of the existence of actual Vampires in the world. He hosted a comprehensive website on Vampiric history for 2 years (2000 - 2001) and has spent much time studying the real-life existence of PSYCHIC VAMPIRES. Shidoshi has a vampire bite tattoo on his neck, and contrary to the popular belief that his tattoo symbolizes membership in a Vampire cult, Shidoshi confirms that he had it done simply to express his adoration and respect for the Vampire legend.
* Shidoshi spent 2 years of his high-school life attending an all-male Christian Boarding School in the mountains of North Carolina called CHRIST SCHOOL where he held a highly active position in the church, took religious studies courses, attended regular missionary trips to the inner-city of Charleston, South Carolina and held a steady role in each school theater performance for which he also received a Varsity letter in.
