a fun little experiment involving numerous percussion "instruments" including a hand drum, a shaker, indian bells, a teacup and a desktop. I dig this song's groove. |

A musical exploration of the Great Sand Dunes National Monument in southern Colorado. The suite is made up of four movements, each movement describing a time of day on the dunes. The first movement evokes the image of sunset on the dunes. The second movement, in immediate succession to the first, represents the disorienting qualities of night. The third movement illustrates the gentle serenity of a sunrise. The fourth and final movement depicts an afternoon thunderstorm. |

The first vamp in this song was inspired by an African folk song from Mali. The other parts came naturally from that theme. The monkey sounds are the result of an argument I had with my friend Mark. He said that gibbons have tails and I maintained that they didn't. To settle this, we found some pictures of gibbons online. They were of coure tailless. Anyway, this site also had some recordings of gibbons in the wild, so we downloaded a couple and next thing I know, they pop up in my song. |
