The music is crossover soul at it's best initially mixing components of R&B, Funk, Rock,progressing into and incorporating Hiphop,Jazz and Reggae.Sonnyboy Has released three cd's independently,"Afrosoul 1995,Love Child 1998 and the new UrbanMisfit 2002.
Sonnyboy was founded in 1993 by Shel Riser, a song writer and Multi instrumentalist from Minnaepolis, who gaind his roots in writing and producing music in the gospel/R&B tradition. Shel Riser has written, composed, arranged and produced for Sonnyboy among other artists. After paying his dues playing and touring with bands from the Prince circle and artist from the Parliament Funkadelic camp, he became the leading force behind Sonnyboy, which developed it's multi music style in the Minneapolie, MN's music scene.
In 1996 the band relocated to New York,from where thay have since operated,taking all or part of the band touring to Indonesia, Canada,Europe and throughout the U.S. Sonnyboy is an ultra-funky melange of candid socisl commentar, astute intospection and flat out good times thats sure to get the body movin" and stimulate the mind.
