Having skipped a year since the last opportunity to make music together,
brother Bob and I were determined to make something happen this spring.
After a failed attempt to pull together a session in Nashville (next year,
Jimmy!) I resurrected a dream that has been bubbling just beneath the
surface for the past two years: to invite Bob to join the worship band at
Grace Church-where I have held forth on bass for the past three years- and
record a live worship CD. The possibility of playing together live after
almost 30 years seemed most impossible, but as you can hear in the tracks, the dream was realized. I discovered that there was a 24 track
mobile recorder in Abbotsford and engaged it for Friday, April 19. Bob
arrived on Wednesday and rehearsed with the worship band on Wednesday
night- our usual preparation for Sunday service-and again for a short
practice on Thursday so the recording engineers could get their levels.
Friday night, after a short run-through and the requisite last minute
problems (who needs vocal mikes?!), we played the set twice before a
special group of 75 or so friends and family. Then we spent the next
5 days in the studio-to all our surprise, live worship CDs are only partly
so! Bob and I would like to thank the players in the band-now you guys know
how you sound: AMAZING!-and to Mom & Dad for making it possible for the
dream to live on.
