No, this song has nothing to do with sheep. This is one of many, usually happy, songs associated with the harvest in northeast Scotland, when men and women worked together in the fields, the men shearing the crop with scythes and the women stacking it. |

Celebrating Irish and Celtic traditions through music, songs, stories, and games. "singing, dancing, everywhere" the new album issued by Nancy Daily-Green is certainly the most objective release to come on the market in the last half century. Aimed as it is at the younger generation of Irish music lovers, it serves as an ideal introduction to perhaps the greatest folk music the world knows. |

This tune is one of my own compositions written recently at the request of my Grandad. He & my Granny (pictured) celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on January 22nd 2003. The Hills o' Yarrows lie behind their croft in Thrumster, Caithness, in Scotland, where they have spent almost all their married years. I dedicate this tune to the two of them on this amazing occasion & I truly couldn't have wished for more wonderful Grandparents. Hear more music at http://mp3.com/Hugh_Morrison |

Introduction notes by Rickey Lashley
"Soldier's child is a lullaby, though as it was being written it became a sad little lullaby indeed. While writing the melody I noticed a martial quality to the beat and tempo and, so, I began to think of soldiers and parades and of how children love to watch them marching on their way to some adventure. But, as the song evolved, I realized that not every child who watched his or her father march away to war would receive the joy of reunion. Some children , like so many soldiers, are expected to be brave in the face of death. If they do not have their own statue they most certainly, must have their own song." "Sinéad had blonde hair, a black beret and was a rebel. She hung out at our gigs, got drunk with us and laughed a lot. She wasn't married and had a baby at home. She was a can-do kind of person. One night she asked me what would move Black 47 to a new level? "Radio play," said I, with little or no hesitation. "Where do I start?" She replied. I told her about a guy named Vin Scelsa, gave her his address and a couple of 45s of Funky Ceili. The next week Vin started playing Funky Céilí." -exerpt from Larry Kirwan at www.Black47.com

Rise wanted to "keep the feel of a traditional Burns-type ballad while utilising the the power of modern instrumentation and production. We combined an intelligible lyric, telling an age-old story, set to a traditional melody then wrapped it up in a modern arrangement and tried to play it with as much feeling as possible." Spekkio's Theme (Chrono Trigger) rearranged as a traditional Scottish Highlands folk & march track. (One of the instruments most notable is the highland bagpipes.) I decided to call it "Spekkio the Brave" in keeping with another very famous song in the same genre. :-) I tried my best to keep this track within the bounds of the style I rearranged it for. This includes taking into account that, traditionally, this type of Scottish music focuses on simple instrumentation and a repetetive form to the arrangement. It includes two variations of my favorite Scottish pipe band styles (both very similar) and it seems to meld together well in the one track. With this piece, I was aiming to rearrange the original by faithfully conforming to the traditional aspects of this style. Find out more at http://mp3.com/Spekko |
