 Assorted Phlavors, Hall Of Fame/Epic's new, phlavorly diverse R&B/hip-hop quartet, are a fierce female vocal force ready to score direct hits with their soulful, self-titled debut album. Featuring the scintillating lead single, "Be Patient," the album is predominantly produced by platinum hitmaker Dave "Jam" Hall, founder and CEO of Hall of Fame Records. The first act released on the Westchester, NY-based label, LaKisha Johnson, Julia Garrison, Tiffany Phinazee and Antonia Bryant a/k/a Assorted Phlavors are all extremely gifted lead singers, each contributing, says Julia, "different musical influences to the mix: jazz, classic R&B, and a little hip-hop." The group's rich, resonant vocal blends produce off-the-hook harmony, overflowing with sensuality and emotion. Prime examples include: "First You Said," a show-stopping power ballad, boosted by luscious leads from Tiffany, Julia and LaKisha; "Don't Let Go," a definitive lover's lament, rooted in smoothed-out satin soul; "Tell Me," produced by Dave Hall and powered by Julia's passionate up-front vocals; "Keep It On The D. L.," a head-nodding Kenny Smoove butter track, hype enough to please even the real Gs; "Hiding Place," featuring guest vocals by dancehall queen Patra and first featured on the Money Train soundtrack; "Trust," penned by Gordon Chambers (Anita Baker, Brownstone) and a harmony driven soul/pop delight; and "Love Ballad," a spirited cover of the timeless LTD classic of 1976. The combined history of Assorted Phlavors actually began in the members' high school days, when an En Vogue type act formed for a school talent show proved such a huge hit that its members subsequently decided to go professional. Unfortunate circumstances lead to the exit of three original members of the group, then known as Essence. Bronx-based Julia, who first honed her voice in church and then high school, met Antonia; with the later arri val of Tiffany and LaKisha, all the pieces were finally in place. In 1995, signed to Hall Of Fame, Essence became the stronger, sexier, more versatile and focused Assorted Phlavors. Where the earlier group was dominated by an older gospel edge and attitude, Assorted Phlavors has a more youthful vibe and concept," reasoned Antonia, a Yonkers resident who has been singing since age 12. "We're like sisters, we love and respect each other, and our music and stage show reflect that," adds Harlemite Tiffany, whose extensive performing resume includes winning first prize at the Apollo Theater's world-famous amateur night. "We're proud of our album," notes LaKisha, a graduate of the Westchester Conservatory of Music, "and we worked very hard to keep it real." The quartet's vivacious voices, positive attitude, and sizzling sex appeal leave Assorted Phlavors well-equipped for the long-term career to which they aspire. "We really wanted this golden opportunity," Julia concludes. "Now that it's finally here, we're giving it everything we've got, so we can continue doing together what we all love to do most -- SING!" In 1996, the soul satisfaction the world truly savors, is now being served--but only in Assorted Phlavors.
