recorded live in our rehearsal room, this track is probably the most
hardcore thing we've done. a live favourite, a mathy chorus and refused
type break. this was take two of three done that day. this track will be
on our new album in october, probably with very few tweaks, we might slow
it down a little bit.

the opener on our 2nd album; lyrically this song is about our friend martin who died suddenly last year - i guess we dealt with it by throwing ourselves into this record. personally i saw the whole thing as a kick in the ass to do all the things i had promised myself i would do for the last few years. musically, we were trying to fuse helmet with paul simon, it kind of works in a strange way. one of the lyrics sums up the whole new record for me 'this spark is instant - it dies before you know' |

this was the first recording we made with our new guitarist cahir. i suppose its a celebration of him being in the band. jamie wrote this riff, and we wanted to play it over and over. it reminds me of a helmet track from strap it on or something. This was released on els quatre gats. |

our first single, it was a really hard song to record, but we stumbled through it after a few weeks. something about this track got people interested in what we were doing. at the time when we wrote the lyrics i was pretty down on myself, 'you are not as determined as you once were' was directed inward on paper - but live, people take this as a bit of a call to f*ck sh*t up. which is great. |

my fundamental flaw was the last track we wrote as a three piece, we wrote it during the day in glasgow while we were on tour, it has that 'lots of components' feel to it. at the time we were listening to loads of southern stuff, 90 day men, burning airlines. the bass line at the end has that sort of thing. i've always thought of this as the sister track to atoms dream in technicolor from zfc, lyrically its a continuation of that. |

musically similar to a song by the van pelt. chris leo roasted us plenty about that! we wrote this literally in realtime. it was the night we named the band jetplane landing, and we went to the studio at 4am. at 4.03am we were done. lyrically it meant a lot to me, it discusses something that hurt a great deal. its become a participation track at gigs. people get up on stage and sing it - which i love. this track taught us that good things come from the strangest places. |
