OUT OF MIDDLE AMERICA...
many people have come to expect a more
laid back feel to emerge as the predominant sound. With local influence from such Minneapolis bands as the
Jayhawks, Geardaddies and Honeydogs, Raukar does do some wandering into the alt/country feel, but most of the
songs sport a lot less country and a bit more rock and roll, as with further MN influence from the Replacements.
The alt/country sound shines through momentarily (songs like On My Own and New Orleans), while also subtly
straying into jazzy, funky, Latin or soulful flavorings (Wishing Song/Get Up Off That Wig/The Waiting Hour).
You'll mostly find a variety of rock
textures on both acoustic and electric tracks, all bedded down into quite a quarry. With a recent self-propelled
rising onto the scene, and an unveiling of a rock collection of vast, yet intelligent variance, Raukar digs hard
and deep into the perspective world he interprets through honest and uncompromised songsmithing. With tonal
degrees ranging from raw, unruly guitar, bass and drum driven tracks with coarse melodies (Not the One/Until I
Try), to acoustic and mandolin songs cascading with liquid tones and haunting vocal composites (Mandy/Wishing
Song), you'll find many layers of moody themes of conviction.
From the influence of life on love (and vise versa), as with strangers from around the corners of the world (No One's World), to the unknowns within ourselves (Imparity), the artist's topics and mirrored musical affect are definitely not always painless (Bridge) or serious (Show Your Phat Skinny). Some of the tracks are notoriously positive (Higherway), while others may take a second or third listen to find the common thread of hope (She Knows). "On the more melancholy songs, some people have continued crying, but with a smile on their face after it was finished", Raukar allows. The singer/songwriter touts a "devil's truth" with a certain urgency in the vocals on most tracks. "Songs can be the ultimate medium of uninhibited expression, just by nature. I don't set out to sadden anyone. Communicating with people through music is just something that happens", says Raukar, "I'm glad it can work with the silly songs too".
