Foothill is made up of two St. Stephen,
New Brunswick (Canada) residents,
Todd Veinotte and Jim Cornall. Todd, who is from Saint John, and Jim, from England, met at work in St. Stephen, and soon found a common bond in music. Veinotte is the main creative force musically. He took some lyrics Cornall had been writing, one of which was more a poem, and turned it into the song One Eye Vacant, which appears on the No Way Out CD. From that first song, written in January 2001, the pair has written a couple of dozen songs, 12 of which appear on the CD that was finally completed on September 11. The CD was recorded and mixed at Wooden Music studio in Saint John. Each song on the album is a true collaboration, with inspiration for the songs coming from just about everywhere. There are songs about childhood, lost love, poverty and life in general. Veinotte supplies the guitars on the CD as well as lead vocals, Cornall sings backing vocals, and there are contributions from musicians such as Saint John guitarist and recording artist Wes Jagoe (additional guitars), who also produced the CD, and some stellar piano work from Tom Mennier, the renowned keyboardist who tours with the McGarrigle Sisters as well as in his own right as a concert pianist. The music? Well, influences abound. Both the writers are well versed in several genres of music, but listeners have described it as straightforward popular music, in a similar vein to the Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and America. Got Me Where You Want Me, the first single from the album, is gaining airplay.
Foothill has since grown to a three-piece for live performances. The live line-up of the band is - Todd Veinotte (lead vocals, guitars), Jim Cornall (drums and vocals) and Keith Adams (bass).
