Ardent music fan and musician-wannabe. One of my hobbies is music. I love collecting it, recording it, and creating it! I don't claim to have much musical talent, but I do have a lot of fun with it. (My understanding exceeds my technique!) Being something of a hermit, I think it's so cool to be able to come up with a song idea, perform it, record it, manipulate it, and burn the finished song onto a CD, all by myself and all at home! I have all the "toys" (see Images link), I just need to practice more! Since I have to work full-time, and I'm lazier than a rug on Valium, I'll never be more than just a perpetual amateur...
This site is basically just an easy way for
my family and friends to hear my junk without me emailing
huge files. If you don't fit that profile (and maybe if you do),
you'll probably be disappointed. I'm still
improving (I hope!) my performing and recording
skills, so there could eventually be some
better songs here. (No, I don't pretend to think
I can sing, although I enjoy trying.)
Thanks for the attention!--------

(8/2002) My brother Jeff wrote the lyrics to this one. He sent them to me, and I made up the music for them. The bass is my guitar played through one of the many "voice" effects on the digital studio. I added piano, and the harmonica effect near the end is also done with a keyboard. |

(8/2002) OK, this one's pretty morbid! I'd been playing with the guitar part for months, trying to figure out what to do with it. Although it almost sounds like 2 guitar tracks, it's just one, bar chords strummed low and high. I used a standard drumtrack from the digital studio, but added the ride cymbal, toms, and crash cymbal manually with my new BOSS digital drum machine. The lyrics... Well, I made up the 7th verse first ("But the Joe we know could hurt no one..."), while playing the guitar, then put the guitar down and formed the "story" around that verse. I don't know where the idea came from. It's purely fictional, although I'm sure it's made people wonder about me! I guess I watch too many true-crime shows. |

3/15/2003 - My good friend (and guitar virtuoso) Tad Wilson dropped by while I was working on another basic blues thing. I had already put down the bass line (right channel), and was showing Tad what I planned to do with my acoustic guitar (left channel). He picked up my Gibson, told me to turn on the recorder, and we did the acoustic guitar and lead guitar "live" together. Tad's magic touch made it really good! The last 2 minutes are edited in. I was screwing around with Tad's lead track, and I duplicated it, then offset one of the tracks by one verse, then played them together to see what would happen. |
