The lake is so beautiful. I remember swimming in it. The light shimmers and the leaves vibrate like little paper drums in the wind. We walk through the birch forest, and the sun is warm on my skin. |

There is a rickety old piano in the guest room of my grandparents’ house. It looked so large twenty years ago. I glanced over at my wife, and then at the peeling paint all around me. The place was probably falling apart twenty years ago, but I do not remember the decay. I have changed.
In the big room, a tree and New Year’s celebration. I remembered the ceiling as if it was 20 meters tall. A childhood memory. And then in May I would watch the parade on Red Square. There are cafes outside now and people with cellular telephones milling about. Much has changed. |

I walk toward the school from the apartment on Polustrovsky. I cannot even recognize this place, it is so dirty and downtrodden. I look back at the gray monstrosity of our old apartment building. |
