The favorite of a disproportionately high number (maybe 30%?) of those
who have heard my stuff. (To be fair, a lower but also disproportionately
high number like it least.) A long download, but it's all in one movement,
so when you're done you're done. Tempos: Quarter note=80 to double
speed. |

Quite old-fashioned. Almost sounds like something Shostakovich could
have written. Tempo: Quarter note=88. |

Tempo varies. Character varies--from heroic to absurd. Contains about
four minutes of dodecaphonic music, but it's written so you probably won't
be able to spot it. Instrumentation: Strings including basses, 1 piccolo,
1 flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, 4 horns,
2 trombones, tympani, snare drum, and vibraphone. |

Scherzo--a carnival, geeks included. Tempo: Quarter note=228, but, as
with much triple time music, the beat is really one per measure. |

An orgiastic finale. Movements 2, 3, & 4 contain brief quotes from Borodin,
Berg, and Beethoven, respectively. The Beethoven quote in this
movement is so obvious that it's hard to spot. Tempo: Quarter note=152. |

One of an ongoing series of works in honor of Max Ernst, who worked on
the admirable principle that artists can do any damn thing they want. A
techno drum,. a heavy metal group, a swing band, and a string orchestra
cooperate in this one. Only on a computer. Tempo: Quarter note=200. |

A piece in honor of Max Ernst, written on the principle that I can do any
damn thing I want. Quirky orchestration, with accordion. There are 2
paintings by Ernst of this name, and I have the first one in mind. Tempo:
Quarter note=60. |

Mournful. I'd have tried to get it to Albert Ayler if he'd been alive. Tempo:

This piece is distinguished by being in 13/8 time, having no guitars or
drums, and nonetheless being rock and roll. I wasn't trying to write rock
music, either; it just turned out that way. Bound to happen sooner or
later, at least in this country. Tempo: Quarter note=120. |

Conceptual art is the only kind I can create drunk. This was originally
concieved for player piano in a bar in the '70s. Now it's played on a new
machine. Very fast and manic. Loud, too. Tempo: Quarter note=200, but
lots of sixteenth notes. |

A time-travelling tango that repeatedly falls back into something very close
to a habanera. Scored for an orchestra that includes amplified
harpsichord. Tempo: Half note=112. |

A very short piece, to let people with slow connections get at least a vague
idea of what my music's like. A repeated piece in an as yet unfinished
ballet. It's what you play for the devil on state occasions. |

A new and perverse use for Hungarian spaghetti--the sort of textured stuff
found in Bartok, Ligeti, etc. Definitely offensive to those still charmed by
"aktionen." The movement becomes increasingly tonal and melodic in
fairly conventional ways as it goes along. Tempo: Quarter note=36. |
