Discography | Play this whole DAM CD: Radio ODDYSSEY Lo Fi: Play Hi Fi: Play
| Oddyssey (Fusion Guitar, Atmospheres) Five tracks from "Oddyssey" have been in the TOP TEN on the MP3.com Jazz Fusion charts -- "NEworld" sat at #1 on the Fusion charts for almost the entire month of July, 1999! It's been a while since then, but the tracks hold up. From the meandering frenetic solo work in NEworld to the soft percolations of Letters @ 3AM and Summercussion, I attempted to build a different kind of sound unique to my way of hearing music. That is, interesting chord changes realized through unique and lush keyboard sounds, utilizing creative drum and sample programming, and layered with a variety of guitar sounds. In the end there is no dependence on any one of these things to carry it all. Each part or sound makes its own contribution to the sound, wiihout dominating the overall experience. | Play this whole DAM CD: Radio LIQUID THUNDER Lo Fi: Play Hi Fi: Play | Liquid Thunder (Hawaiian, World Music) "Liquid Thunder" is a musical and visual travelogue of famous surf breaks along the North Shore of Oahu. The production crew for this feature film traveled those skinny beach highways filming the surfing greats of the day taking on the most famous waves in the world. Stops along the way include Haleiwa, Back Door, Pupukea, Pipeline, Sunset, the majestic Waimea Bay and more. This is not twangy surf-rock, but music that combines Hawaiian slack key guitar stylings and rock and jazz into a fusion of styles that's familiar, but fresh. With the awesome talent of Greg Leisz (k.d. lang, Dave Alvin, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, Bill Frisell) on slide guitar, along with contributions by other musical friends, I attempted to create music that fits the surfing on the screen but also stands alone as good music to sit down and watch a sunset to -- think of HONK playing "Five Summer Stories." |

Techno meets guitar. First it sounds like Yello... then it sounds like King Crimson... then it sounds like Yello again... |

Writing and producing this track made me feel like the raven that sees the bright shiny object and cannot take its attention away from it. To begin, it has the feel of smooth jazz, but then metamorphoses into a slamming rock instrumental in the style of Allan Holdsworth's older material, only to come to some kind of resolution at the coda with jazz style guitar octaves. You decide. |

Pat Metheny backed by frenetic Robots...but Robots with soul (as well as rubber arms!) -- at least that's what it sounds like to me when I send one of my guitar tracks through a ring modulator... |
