JohnnyMercury.com If you think Rockabilly Music is only about Elvis, the Stray Cats, or the oldies station on local radio - think again. Johnny Mercury and the Hot Rockets take those influences and combine them with their own unique flair and witty lyrics to make an exciting brand of early rock 'n' roll - with a modern twist. Newcomers who normally would not know this music have been amazed by their sound, while those within this unique subculture maintain a loyal following. Johnny Mercury has been playing guitar and performing live music since the age of 15 in 1983, starting out with wild holy roller groups, then graduating to roadside juke joints and large auditoriums. Johnny has played on over 30 recordings and performed regularly on a local television show called the "Good Old Gospel Hour" (1987-1988) in Spring Hill, West Virginia where he was born and raised. In 1994, Johnny dicovered his own voice in music and formed Johnny Mercury and the Hot Rockets. During those years the band played everywhere, including: coal miner bars, all-ages shows with punk rock bands, the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender (1999), even at CBGB's in New York City (1998). In a search for greener pastures, Johnny Mercury relocated his music to Portland, Oregon in the fall of 2000 where he currently resides. It was at this time his 3 year tenure with the Los Angeles based record label, Bi-Amp Records ended, beginning a new chapter for the Hot Rockets. Teamed up with Jake Elledge on Upright Bass and J.P. Valentine on drums, the current line-up of Johnny Mercury and the Hot Rockets is the best it's ever been.
