Supplication
of Compassion
(first half)
(quality
MIDI realization) |
A haunting devotional work for double choir
and orchestra - a multitudinous chanting of the
well known mantra, om
mani padme hum, like you've never
heard it done before. A unique combination of
Eastern and Western traditions, inexorably
building from austere and sombre strands of chant
into massive edifices of visionary sound. The
second half (well, actually a little more
than half) is an elaborated rerun of the
first half, with greater intensity and a more
extended and powerful climax. Buy the CD to hear
the entire 21-minute work and get the full effect.

'Serious'
Listening for Substantial Music --
Purchase CDs...
There are currently three
workable sources for CDs of Philip Goddard's
works:
This
page:
2 introductory MP3.com CDs
The Composer's
own website (with the most up-to-date
recordings and better sound quality) - 10
CDs, all the works apart from the short
pieces extracted from the major ones.
Musik Fabrik's
page at Ampcast - 3 CDs, covering most
of the orchestral music. The same
recordings as on the Composer's CDs, but
much more professionally packaged, with
full colour inserts and some brief notes.
The MP3.com
CDs will be a convenient introduction for some,
but they are of lesser quality compared with the
Composer's own CDs and the Ampcast ones, which
have better and more realistic instrument sounds
in the orchestral works than you will hear from
the downloaded MP3s - and they have greater
clarity and dynamic range.

'Lightning Over Baosbheinn - Mountain of the Wizard'. The 5th movement of a large 9-movement cycle for organ. A virtuoso celebration of the power of the elements in the midst of the rugged, craggy wilderness. It becomes apparent that the wizard in question has a youthful sense of humour! (MIDI realization) |
