A piece of Bluegrass history, this CD contains the only live
Kentucky Colonels recording, originally recorded in stereo
January 15th, 1965 at a live show given in Vancouver, Canada. The
quality of the original master tape combined with the digital
remastering has created a live performance recording of the
highest quality possible. After holding on to the master tapes
for a number of years, Billy Ray decided to release this
recording in order to share with listeners the feel of an entire,
uncut, Kentucky Colonels show depicting what Billy Ray says is,
"what the Kentucky Colonels were all about."
The
Kentucky Colonels played together from 1959 through 1966. Their
record albums, and live bootleg tapes, have become some of the
most sought after bluegrass recordings in history. After the
group split up, the members all went on to do great things in
music. Clarence White played with the legendary rock band, The
Byrds, and then later reunited with Roland in the New Kentucky
Colonels before his tragic death in 1973. Roland went on to play
with bluegrass legends Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt as well as
the New Kentucky Colonels, Country Gazzette, and now, the
Nashville Bluegrass Band. Roger Bush also spent time with the
Country Gazzette, Eric Weissberg and Marshall Brickman, Dillard
and the Expedition, and the Greenbriar Boys. Billy Ray Lathum
played with Rick Nelson, spent nearly ten years with The
Dillards, played on the Ozark Opry, and also performed with
Dillard and The Expedition and Roger Miller. Although all the
band members continued to be musically productive throughout
their careers, there remains something very special about those
early Kentucky Colonel days.
