children of magic--they no longer walk the earth. this song of the unicorns was a beautiful, but sad melody. the unicorn's lullaby was sung by the last unicorn mother to her child.

When we first entered the caves, my expectations were not high. The surface of the planet was little more than hard, black rock. I for one was looking forward to the mission's end and a return to Starbase. I quickly changed my mind. The further our trek carried us from the surface, the more the planet seemed to come alive. At first it was small slug-like creatures. But they were the most beautiful slugs I have ever seen, with multicolored phosphorescence adorning their bodies. Water bubbled softly from crevices in the rock and the rivulets joined to form streams, rushing towards what must have been a mighty underground river. More colorful organisms appeared; some that looked like starfish, and eel creatures in the water. It was getting very interesting indeed. But nothing could have prepared me for what I next saw. We came upon an opening, we could hear the sound of crashing water from beyond. I will never forget the sight that greeted my eyes when we ventured through. An enormous cavern that stretched further in all directions than our torches' light could reach greeted us. A waterfall formed by all the surface and ground water running down shot out from a hole in the rock, not far from where we stood, and could be heard crashing far below our level. We could not see where it hit, but it must have been several kilometers down. We would have to return with the hoverpods to explore further. The mist formed by that juncture drifted up and filled the part of the cavern where we were. From the walls of the cavern, millions of tiny creatures gave off a glow; but that was not all, the rocks, the very place itself seemed to radiated its own light. Crystals and gems of untold value adorded the walls. As if all this weren't enough, some sort of geologic or biologic force had evidently carved long hollow tubes in the rocks all the way to the surface, thousands of meters higher, and the wind up there echoed down and filled the cavern with the most hauntingly beautiful sound I have ever heard, It was as if some giant subterranean organ was playing its heart out just for us. I had gone from wishing the mission was over and I was home to looking at the most beatiful sight my eyes had ever seen within a matter of hours.
