Jazz keyboardist and guitarist Cat Tanzu creates music that both relaxes and stimulates. It is smooth modern jazz that creates a dreamscape of tranquility and peacefulness while being fully capable of supplying the horsepower for a supercharged 21st century urban ride. Cat's signature sound is a smooth seasoned electric guitar tone that is clearly influenced by Carlos Santana. The interaction between guitar and fender rhodes keyboard lends itself to bands such as Weather Report and Pat Metheny. "I write from impressions," says Cat. "It starts with glimpses and then takes a life of its own. I try to maintain a melodic quality to the music while also injecting a little bit of power into it." Cat cut his musical teeth in the Hawaiian Islands where he played as keyboardist, guitarist and vocalist for the PD Band, playing contemporary Hawaiian music as well as soft rock favorites. After leaving his Hawaiian roots and relocating in Seattle, Cat began creating his own brand of music. Cat compares himself to Pygmalion. Like the mythical sculptor who became obsessed with his own statue of Aphrodite, his music is a labor of love. "I try to bring out qualities of beauty, sexuality and at the same time a certain dignity to each piece," he says. "They're aural fantasies. It's just something that I hope will make the whoever hears it think about the true beauty in their life."
