Artist History
Wendy spent several years honing her craft in various Melbourne bands, but it was soon apparent that her unique musical vision was being stifled by the constraints of working with a set group of instruments and musicians. Deciding to take her songs to the world as a solo artist, Wendy entered a small Melbourne studio to begin work on "Zero", her debut album. Entirely self-financed, the record would take nine months to complete and, upon its release in 1996, bring Wendy Rule to the eyes and ears of a huge number of music fans around Australia and, via the internet, the world. All the time writing songs that were increasingly groundbreaking and exciting, Wendy spent much of the next year doing a huge amount of live work, releasing the double-A-side single "Artemis / The Killing Moon" and, later in 1997, a live album recorded at The Continental in Melbourne. By now, she had attracted the attention of many of Melbourne’s most influential artists, playing live with the likes of Stephen Cummings, Monique Brumby, Kerri Simpson, Shane O’Mara, Rebecca Barnard and Bill McDonald as well as scoring tour support slots for Max Sharam and legendary UK icon Donovan. In November 1997, Wendy entered Melbourne’s Periscope Studio to commence work on her second full-length studio album, "Deity", which was produced by Simon Polinski (The Church, Paul Kelly, My Friend The Chocolate Cake, Monique Brumby).Wendy is currently recording her third studio album, "World Between Worlds", which will be released later in 2000. |
