Additional Info
Australia - In late March and early April 2000 the All-Stars toured Australia. It was our first tour to this part of the world and it turned out to be a huge success, covering seventeen gigs in eighteen days, playing to packed houses along the way. The band visited, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and places in between. Australia is a lively and buzzing continent, with beautiful scenery. Jazz audiences are generally of the same age group as those in the UK. Most encouraging though, the band played to a healthy number of younsters, notable was one memorable night in the coastal "hippie" town of Byron Bay, where a delightful crowd of young surfers and backpackers crammed into the local music club and gave us a tremendous, stirring reception. The tour was organised by Ashley Keating and we are in the early stages of planning a return visit, possibly in the Autumn of next year. America - Another great success was had by the All-Stars when in May 2000 we attended the renowned Sacramento Jazz Jublilee in California, USA. With over 100 band playing there, Sacramento must be the largest jublilee of its kind in the world. The Phil Mason New Orleans All-Stars with Christine Tyrrell has a full schedule covering gigs in the UK, Dresden in Germany, another large jazz festival of its kind, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, leading up to the 31 December 2000 when we hold a Jazz & Ceilidh Party back home on the Isle of Bute winter Gardens, Rothesay, Scotland. 07/09/2000 |
