Artist description
nbp (Not Born to Participate) is a Dutch band. Their music can be described as hardcore/emo/punk with a (tiny) metal edge. The squad uses creativity, emotion and frustration as primal elements in their music and wishes not to limit themselves by genre or style. Typical nbp: high-pitched vocalssucceeded with heavy screaming. Metallic as well as punky guitar-parts built on a foundation of bass and varying drums. Lyrically the band writes about personal as well as social subjects. Briefly: hardcore that makes you feel... |

Artist History
At the end of 1995 singer/ guitarist Jaron and Joris (also guitarist) made a couple of songs together. They wanted to play the songs in full and therefore they needed a bass-player and a drummer. Sjoerd was asked to play the bass-guitar and Rienk, who also played in another hardcore/ punk cover band with Jaron and Joris, was willing to drop the beat. Many gigs followed. These gigs were mostly held in their hometown area, but more and more at places further from there. In their four year history they have played with a lot of bands, such as: Apartment-3G , Jimmy eat World, Reveal, Congress, Undeclinable Ambuscade, NRA, Human Alert, Guiding Line, Disdain, Discipline, NAOP, Neuk, and many others.September 1996. nbp went to a local studio to record their first demo-tape. This tape, entitled Expectations, contains 10 of their early songs included a cover song from Youth of Today (Expectations). This tape sold nearly 150 copies and is completely sold out.In June 1997, a second recording session took place. Seven songs were recorded at the same local studio. Again, the songs came out on a self titled tape, but this time the songs sounded more mature. This tape was crowned as 'demo of the month' in Opscene (Dutch music magazine). Tracks of this tape were chosen for a few Dutch compilations. The nbp title-song (Not Born to Participate) as it appears on this tape also came out on this year's first CD release "...and the Plot thickens." Tom, who joined the band in early 1998, took charge over the leading vocals on this album. With his skills the band was finally able to combine both hardcoreand punk and give it an emo touch. It was an opportunity for former singer/guitarist Jaron to focus more on his guitar-parts. He now only sings background-vocals. The CD came out in early March on Hectic Records (a starting local label). The album contains 10 of their past and mostly current songs. This recording reflects what nbp is doing right now, although their latest songs kick ass even more....'Universe of Discourse' a track from '...and the Plot thickens' will be released on a Tolerance Records compilation on the 21st of November. This sampler is entitled 'Just Look Around, Part 2'. There is also another compilation release planned for January/ February on Sonic Wave Records.Currently nbp is working on new material for a new Hectic release (early) next year. And of course the stage is still their domain. |
