Artist History Founded in the Spring of 1999 by artists Jeff Kahooilihala and Teresa Kiplinger, Dollblanket is an experimental proving ground that explores the future of art, media and visual narrative in a nonlinear environment. Intended for broadband Internet delivery, the project expands in an open-ended series of episodes that change and interrelate over time. The Dollblanket score has been wrought by a diverse collective that has grown to include Joe Minadeo (Full Blown Kirk, RacerMason), Krista Tortora (Full Blown Kirk), Derek and Brett Lashua and Mandy Lascko (RacerMason) and Johnathan Swafford (Hilo). Described as a reliquary, Dollblanket examines the culmination of several lives as expressed in the immaterial objects left behind: a comb, a pill, ajar of dirt. The tale unfolds in a house which itself becomes the reliquary,offering up these disjointed remains; the nonlinear nature of thisvoyeuristic narrative provides the viewer an opportunity to unearth -- oroverlook -- these slight threads of memory and minutia that are at oncemeaningful and senseless.The on-going process of creating Dollblanket draws from the artists'research into their own genealogy, the exploration of remnants of livesunrelated to their own, and the synergistic process of collaborativechance -- each artist creating elements separately, then combining them toexamine and hone the results. Because the project and process are designedto change as it grows, the viewer's experience is malleable; aparticular episode may be different from one week the next or even minuteslater. This process connects the artist to the viewer by delivering theperpetual evolution of the work as the finished product.
