    Artist description
Generic Soul is the Alter-Ego od DJ Dig-Doug. Dig-Doug is a classically trained musician who was turned on to electronica at an early age. His roots are deeply founded in a rich jazz and funk background. His father was one of the bass player's in George Clinton's first experimental funk project. As a pre-teen he played around with all of the vocoders and other electronic noise contraptions in the basement of his Detroit home where they would "rehearse." He deftly combines all of his musical influences into a smooth conglomeration of sound, through which thickly-layered rolling basslines and tightly constructed breakbeats prevail.

    Artist History
Dig-Doug has been a B-Boy from day one. He started DJ'ing in 1984 at the age of 13, making mix tapes for his break-dancing crew "The Circuit Breakers" in Detroit. His older step-brother was friends with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson who taught him the DJ'ing ropes. He was one of the founder's of the Detroit techno movement, establishing several after-hours clubs including the first official home of the Motor-City rave scene - "The Alley." He is often credited as the first American DJ to bring Jungle/Drum-N-Bass to the masses. In 1991 he traveled abroad extensively, and brought back with him the sounds of Jamaican "Dancehall" and "Dub," as well as European "Breakbeat" and "Acid." He developed an ecclectic style by mixing those records with his Detroit Techno and Hip-Hop. He moved to Orlando, FL in 1994 at the age of 23. DJ Icey, the innovator of the "Funky-Breaks" scene quickly took him under his wing and gave him a closing slot for the now defunct club "The Edge" at their infamous "Sunday Sk ool" parties. He immediately started making a name for himself in the scene and producing his own shows featuring DJ Icey and the rest of the DJ's responsible for creating the "Floor-ida" sound of Funky-Breaks. Throughout the mid-late 1990's DJ Dig-Doug could be found blowin' up the dance floors as a resident at "The Club@Firestone," the "Zen" Festivals, and several raves and club events throughout the Southeast. He opened up with DJ Icey for The Chemical Brothers tour in 1997. He now has his own stud io and label "The Movement" up and running, and he is clearly producing some of the most unique and original music ever heard. He just returned from a three-month tour of Europe where he rocked the house in places like Berlin, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Madrid, Ibiza, and Athens. He's poised and ready to take over the states in 2K1!

    Press Reviews
Tough, hard-edged cuts with more than a hint of the Bristol style in the break programming. Live double-bass and a liberal use of horn samples add jazz flavor, though the snarling bass and chunky breaks keep these tracks well away from Artcore territory. - (listen.com)“
