Press Reviews
Dec.10th,1999 "Band planning Salvation Army Benefit"John Fletcher always recieved the help he needed duringtough times. Now he and fellow members of the Ann Arbor bandThe Betrayed want to do what they can to help the Salvation Army. The band will be hosting its second benefit concert, featuring six bands, for the organizationon Dec.17 at the Howell Armory. Admission is $5 or a newunwrapped toy. "I've had some rough times in the pastand it was nice to know that someone was there to give me a hand," Fletcher said. "I'm not doing the best I could possibly doing right now, but I'm doing good enough to atleast try to help some other people out. That's how everyone in the band feels."Charlie Naebeck and Mike Gregory are Fletcher's bandmates in The Betrayed. He said the three are working to make the concert bigger than last year, when they held a smaller show for the SalvationArmy at the Howell Theater. "This year we're hoping to make everything bigger and better," Fletcher said. WIQB in Ann Arbor will be doing a remote broadcast from the event and D.J. Tiny Tim will act as emcee. Bands scheduled to appear are The Betrayed, Krescent 4, Seismic3, B CASH, Sacred Sky (now Tenfold) and 60-second crush. About 50 prizes will be given out during the show. WIQB has donated concert tickets- including some to the New Year's Eve Metallica and Ted Nugent show at the Silverdome-and cd's to give away at the concert, and some local businesses have donated gift certificates to give out as prizes Fletcher said. Angelo's Party store in Howell is one of the event's major sponsors. "My goal is to raise $3000.00 for the evening," he said. "One hundred percent of the proceeds, every penny, goes to the Salvation Army."The show is open to all ages and is alchohol-free. The bands are expected to play from 7pm to 12pm.Fletcher said the response to the planning of this year's show has been overwhelming at times to the band. "We've been flooded with people wanting to help," he said. "If we had more time we'd have enough music to do a Howellstock. We had eight bands waiting for cancellations to fill the slots for this years show." As the band plans to put together Howellstock 2000 at the Fowlerville Fairgrounds Located north of Howell,Mi sometime late May of 2000.The Betrayed rehearses in Howell and Ann Arbor and often plays gigs all over Michigan as well as going on mini-tours all over Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Florida, California, and Virginia to date Fletcher said. He's hoping to make the benefit concert an annual event that will draw in supporters from all around. By Jennifer HrynikStaff Writer Livingston County press |
