Number One With a RocketRocket Ajax is poised to go big time with their latest CD Bill Terrell Sentenced to Life is the title of the new Rocket Ajax CD, and from the sound of it these guys are sentenced to a life of success. Rocket Ajax is a Denver-based band in the vien of Nine Inch Nails meets Tool, but not really. This band really doesn’t sound like anyone, and that is perhaps their biggest asset. Anyone who listens to the radio has surely heard of Rocket Ajax. If there is any big show, you can bet these guys will be close to it. Guitarist Todd Schlafer explained, “KBPI has taken a lik-ing to us. They’ve been real good to us, hooking us up with great shows. We feel really fortunate to have gotten the opportunities we have.” While Rocket Ajax has had a lot of good opportunities, one only has to listen to them to know why. This is a great band. We’ve all heard the bullshit that this town is political as far as music goes, and it’s true. It is a blessing to all Denver bands looking for a record deal that Rocket Ajax has gotten their shots. These guys have the potential to bring a lot of atttention to the Denver music scene. Their record was produced by the man Kirby Orrick and is as good as anything on the rack in any music store. “We’d like to find good management that would work their asses off for us,” said drummer Craig Glisson. “Todd does the business stuff now and he does great, but a real management team would surely help.” “We’ve just promoted ourselves as much as we can,” said vocalist Dan Miller. “We sold quite a few CDs and we are planning dates in the midwest in late August.” “Playing on the road is so much fun,” said Bassist Miles Marlin. “Performing in front of strangers is a great rush because you really see where you stand as a band. Without travelling it is really hard for any band to reach their goals.” I know hundreds of bands personally and I honestly believe Rocket Ajax has a great shot at success. Their music speaks for itself, and as far as people go, this band is top-notch. They’ve been around Denver for three years. If you haven’t seen them you are missing out. Use this as your wake-up call and go see Rocket Ajax; they will kick your ass. You can find their CD at Twist and Shout and Wax Trax whenever it isn’t sold out. Check them out on the web at www.rocketajax.com. Say a prayer for these guys; they could help us all, and with the quality of individuals in Rocket Ajax, you can bet they would. - Go Go Magazine July 2000Built on a platform of original keyboard compositions, Rocket Ajax is poised to launch their careers into the stratosphere and beyond. Composed of vocalist/programmer Dan Miller, guitar/programmer Todd Schlafer, bass player Miles Marlin and drummer Craig Glisson, this quartet is ready to blow up your head.Todd and Dan create the undercurrents of synthsound upon which the band gathers its strength, forming a frontal attack that follows those ambient notes. Miles wallops the bottom out of his bass while Craig menaces the backbeat into reality, allowing Dan’s vocals to tear out his being and release it into the air. Todd’s guitar riffs match every emotional apex and are heavy enough to draw comparison to Leatherface chasing you down a never-ending hallway. Not easy listening to be sure, but truly encapsulating a sidebar of this twenty-first century: the growing sense of anomie that so many are experiencing, and the loss of personal identity and self worth in the face of the vast mysterious machinations of corporate conglomerates.Rocket Ajax is in the vanguard leading the charge into change, and their densely dexterous music is indicative of this modern disease. Recently in search of professional management to aid their march to the top, they aim to create a base in California from which they can unleash their metal ruminations upon an unsuspecting populace. This band is determined, and hungry, and I don’t recommend getting in their way. The track featured here is from their disc, Sentenced to Life, and is available on their website www.rocketajax.com. - hardroad.com - Dec. 20000Sounds like: Deftones, Helmet (the old stuff), Quicksand Just what we've been waiting for ... a good, heavy rock album. Dong strong power riffs, filtered distortion, crashing drums, electronic programming and vocal stability-what more could metal-heads want? www.rocketajax.com.- dig Magazine January 2001
