Artist description
Composer, first and foremost, Berthume began his music career as a percussionist at the age of 8. He took up arranging for percussion ensemble and wind ensemble at the age of 15, and at 18 his high school band, the Cleburne High School Wind Ensemble, premiered his first major compositional undertaking, the first symphony for wind band, Looking Glass. Looking Glass is being revised for full symphony orchestra as you read this, since the composer is most likely not sleeping. Other works in progress include Petals And Ashes (the first string quartet), an oboe concerto for orchestra, and any number of sappy pop songs being plunked away at on his pawn shop guitar. Berthume's performance credits include the Berklee Percussion Ensemble, Lone Star Drum and Bugle Corps; on stage as backup percussionist for emerging beat poetess Stephanie Delk; as guest drumset performer with Muddy Waters (at the age of 15), in the studio with Shiva (check it out at listen.com); and also in the studio (1 and a half times) with Matt Walburn, the most brilliant song writer you'll never hear; creatively collaberated and argued with Lee Ewell, Robert Lee Lazenberry, Matt Walburn, and Felix (Froo) Gutierrez. Many of these people you've never heard of, and many of them you never will. However, they're all brilliant in one way or another and deserved mention. |
