    Artist History
The project began to take shape in July of 1995 when the remaining members of the band FUNEREAL OPERA came together with new guitarist Mary with the purpose of creating atmospheric death metal. They went through over a year of stagnation in which they worked with several drummers who could not perform to the band’s satisfaction until they were finally joined by Bret, former drummer for Maryland’s SADISTIC TORMENT, in late 1996, enabling them to realize their vision. The band choose the name GARDEN OF SHADOWS for themselves and recorded their highly acclaimed debut demo entitled "HEART OF THE CORONA" which has sold over 700 copies to date.Recorded at Oblivion Studios in April 1997, "HEART OF THE CORONA" contains 4 original songs: "HEART OF THE CORONA", "LOVELY COLD", "COMPANY IN SOLITUDE", "APOLLONIAN REALM" and an intro. This demo consists of over 30 minutes of emotional atmospheric death metal. It has been distributed in more than 10 countries and has received excellent reviews from ‘zines around the world. In February 1998, the band signed an agreement beginning their cooperation with X-RATED RECORDS in releasing their debut demo on CD. Also at this time, bassist Owen was added to the lineup. They then entered Hit and Run Studios in March to record their new song "SHARDS OF THE SPHERE" which would appear as a bonus track on the MCD. Due to problems with the recording studio, the band was forced to go into a second studio, Walton Recording, in order to complete the mixing of this song. After many delays, they were able to master all six tracks at South Moon Productions mastering studio in June. With a total playing time of 39:16, this MCD was finally released in October 1998. In 1999 the band signed to Wicked World/Earache records and began writing material for their debut full length CD, etitled Oracle Moon. Oracle Moon takes the sound on Heart of the Corona even further into the realm of mystical, dreamy death metal. The GARDEN OF SHADOWS sound is brutal yet melodic with guitar harmonies, majestic keyboard melodies, pulverizing drums, brutal, growling death metal vocals and ethereal female vocals. The music synthesizes elements of various metal styles and combines them to create music that tenaciously grips you and infuses your spirit with mystical emotions. Most recently the band has parted ways with keyboardist Scott due to musical differences. The band is currently searching for a replacement keyboardist. GARDEN OF SHADOWS has played shows in MD, DC, VA, PA, WI and NC, including opening up for IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, DECEASED, SIX FEET UNDER, OBITUARY, SUFFOCATION and MY DYING BRIDE, and they are actively searching for gigs across the US. The band is fiercely determined to make a name for themselves in the underground as one of the foremost atmospheric death metal bands in the U.S.A.
