Press Reviews
Take a listen to the clip, "Stages", it's 30 seconds long. When you do, you'll hear a beautiful guitar/piano intro that moves into lush harmonies and then into the song itself - with the gorgeous vocals of Denise Sosa, partner of the duo/group Burgundy. This is pure adult contemporary pop music, borrowing heavily from Carpenters' like production and 80's David Foster ballad styles - add a terrific classically trained keyboardist (the other half of Burgundy, Steve Sheffron) and aggressive arrangements that include several key changes and modulations and you'll be close to this well written music. Burgundy mixes up some of the style with track 8, "Stuckato", where the ballad gets an energetic boost from a fast ska fusion - lending itself to the obscurely sung and titled tune with a word introduced and defined within the lyrics, 'a soulful flood of emotion being stuck and sometimes prone to never reach the right of tone'. Sosa sounds so much like Karen Carpenter at times it's eerie - which is a great thing - smooth and emotive sincere vocals are inspiring. Track 5, "Nightmare", is a house mixed pumping dance tune that lyrically documents the encounter of nightmares and how to deal with the nocturnal images, 'want to have sweet dreams. .these visions may not be what they seem. .trickery used to work'. Overall, Burgundy dips into different styles, but stay true to their smooth newly forged brand of pop and musically interesting compositions. Cool.Earbuzz.com |
