The Soundtrack in now on MP3.com!SQUONK delivers a live performance that "shatters the boundaries between music and theatrics," weaving dance, humor, giant puppetry, and innovative props, together with music that the Washington Post called "Debussy meets Godzilla." SQUONK is a collaboration of interdisciplinary artists who have won acclaim and awards, nationally and internationally, in the fields of music, visual art, theater, and filmmaking. SQUONK works in a call and response between the musical, visual, dramatic and movement-based arts. We discover content within the collision of these arts, rather than using them to illustrate an extraneous story line, separating our work from the traditional theater. Although we acknowledge debts to avant-garde, jazz, and ethnic musics, and the spectacle of theater, movies, and performance art, what we're really doing is creating a strange new brand of music. SQUONK has played major festivals, theaters, and traditional and nontraditional concert spaces from coast to coast. Since 1992, SQUONK has received over fifteen interdisciplinary grants and fellowships from a variety of public and private organizations.
