Artist History
I have been a musician for about 10 years. I have been making my living as a musician for about 6 years. In these past six years I have had the opportunity to play with some great players and great songwriters. They have taken me through many different musical styles. I started out playing in a band in 93 called Shane and the Wild Weasels doing every kind of music imaginable. During my time with Shane I hooked up with an artist named Jason Perri. A singer/songwriter/violinist from Minneapolis. A total rocker. He and I continue to work today on what has become my main writing project. Check his site out on MP3.com. Great stuff. I spent some time with a local country band named Heartbreak Pass. Bad name, great band. This is where my training in country music really took off. We had a female singer who could rattle the walls with her incredible voice. She turned me on to writing for female singers. Hence, some of the tracks here are not my voice. Only my songs. After about a year and a half of county music I got back my rock roots. I joined a band called Jonah and the Whales. A well-established Minneapolis band of 20 years. It was a project that not only reunited me with rock music but also introduction me to a couple of people who are some of the best friends I have but also some of the most talented musicians I could ever hope to be friends with. Dugan McNeill and Pamela McNeill. Dugan is an incredible songwriter/producer/engineer who has taught me more than anyone who came before him. Pamela's voice and writing abilities are something to pay attention to as the next couple of years roll on. Also, check out Pamela's CD for a good idea of my guitar work. It's a good example of how all of my styles work together. I'm sure her name will become as familiar as any major artist today. Check her out at www.pamelamcneill.com. Pam, Dugan and I also do a lot of session work under the assumed name of The Magnificent Tracers. Some of the best fakes you've never heard. After about a year of Jonah I received an offer to play with the one of the great musicians of the mid-west. Johnny Holm. Quite possibly the busiest band ever. We play over 250 nights a year in front of over 9,000 people per week average. It was a wonderful opportunity to play with some more great musicians plus a great opportunity to play all of the styles of music I love. Every night is a study in music history. All styles, all eras, all on the spot. Never a set list. Check it out. www.johnnyholm.com. When I am not on the road with Johnny, I spend my time in a studio with Jason Perri. We write pretty much every day. I hope to have a collection of those songs listed here very soon. |
