Artist History
The songwriting and singing of Cheryl Bliss have been described by critics as "stimulating, refreshingly different, and completely cool" and feature an eclectic mix of her ethereal, emotive vocals, solid songwriting, and lush, earthy arrangements. She is currently recording her second album of original material to be completed in Fall 2003.
Most recently, Cheryl has been in the studio with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Mark Howard (U2, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, REM) and bassist Daryl Johnson (Neville Brothers, Meters, Emmy Lou Harris) recording material for her latest album. Her self-produced debut album "Angels Running After” was just nominated CD of the Year by Kweevak.com. It was also nominated Best Pop Album 2001 by the San Diego Music Awards.
Grammy-winning producer Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel, Neville Bros.) compares Cheryl’s vocal quality to that of singer Julee Cruise (of Blue Velvet fame), whom Lanois says has “possibly the most beautiful ethereal voice ever.” Radio personality Madison of KPRI Authentic Rock (102.1 FM San Diego) compares the quality of Cheryl's songwriting to that of Aimee Mann.
Cheryl also recorded a song with acclaimed guitarist Phil Keaggy (who is also featured on her own album) for "The Unbreakable Chain," a tribute to Daniel Lanois. Her songs have been downloaded over 60,000 times (hitting #1 on the mp3.com charts) and played on over 50 radio stations worldwide. Cheryl plays regularly in the San Diego area to a devoted and growing fan base. She has enjoyed receiving fan mail from around the world, and has garnered critical acclaim.

Press Reviews
See http://www.cherylbliss.com for current reviews. *****Frank Cotolo, Pure Reviews, mp3.com:Perhaps the latest techno-modern diva has arrived, or is waiting in the wings, in the form of Cheryl Bliss. Amid the reviewing of bands and one-man shows in cyberspace, I aver to a bias that comes with the freshness of a solo female performer? The melodies of these tunes are inseparable from Bliss's interpretation of them, which is a mighty edge for her. This woman's approach to material so far is to be a part of the atmosphere created by the sounds that back her. Still, there are times when her voice overcomes the theater and takes a front-and-center role. She works her voice with ease, it sounds, and has tonal phrasing that is trained and sexy at the same time ... So far, we are a bit enraptured. Bring on more, Bliss and company, we want to be sure this isn't just a crush. Sounds like you have the goods at this point for a genuine love affair with fans.********** ChanceGardener, mp3 reviewer: Overall Rating (A) Cheryl has a delicate way with words, simply hypnotic voice and an eclectic spirit that is captured effortlessly in (these three songs)... man I am impressed ... she is the real deal ... Chance Recommends.....******** posted 04-25-2000 08:37 AM Cheryl Bliss - "All I was with you" A little bit of everything, and it's all good. From the "fatboyz" mouthed boombox effects to the extrodinarily simple 2-note, yet killer guitar lick that drives the chorus. Did you write that lick Cheryl? If not, give your guitar players co-writing credits....(not quite). Big fat funky bass over the drums, which sound very real to me...yeah they are...anyway..a great R&B groove thing going on underneath a tremendous vocal track(s) and the omnipresent guitar. Obvious comparison to the great Kate Bush and that great Kate rip-off artist Tori Amos (Kate should sue for character or personality cloning)...but this isn't exactly Kate...it's uniquely someone else...that would be Cheryl. A very ambitious effort, all that stuff going on but it all falls into place. e-bows and synth slaps and....on and on... I have a bitter headache write now and would love to take it out on something, anything, including this song...but I can't. Cheryl Bliss (name sounds like a porn star moniker, doesn't it?) could and should be going places with more efforts like this. I wouldn't call this a breakthrough song but it's damn close to it...a little bit of big-time radio play and a high profile supporting tour - and a smart record lable would ride this gal all the way to the bank. kvh, mp3.co |
