Artist History
Charles S. McVey has been performing in one form or another all his life. His first experiences in music were with his grandfather who had McVey singing solos in Salina's First Baptist Church at the age of 3. After spending a year at FHSU, McVey started performing acoustic sets in a local coffee shop. Through this exposure, McVey hooked up with 3 other musicians in the Hays area and formed Lemming. The band played the KS music scene for 2 years before disbanding in May of 1998. Since then McVey has been working on solo material in various home studios. In October of 1999, "Someplace Better Than This" was independently released on McVey's impure records. McVey and spouse, Nathan Treolo started working together in 2000 as Apathy Shine, and released their first record, "The Analog Emotion" in the summer of 2001. McVey is currently working on his second solo release. |

Press Reviews
Eerie beginning garners immediate attention. I was intrigued. At 1:42 the theme is more or less taken over by a solid piano...the song really gets started here. The first part is like an Edgar Allen Poe prologue. On the first listen I wasn't impressed...I was prepared to turn it off. However, I looked at the website again and looked around...experimental rock...and Nine Inch Nails caught my attention...I realized I had been listening with the wrong filters... I turned on the album again and opened my mind a bit... The vocals fit more carefully than I had realized. The sound is almost gothic but doesn't cross any lines. "Look at what you've become...Nothing...nothing at all..." Good lyrics...solid beat...solid sound... I'm glad I gave this a second listen. This has found a place into my sites to come back to. This has found a home on my playlist... Who should avoid this tune? To borrow from the song, "No one...no one at all..." ***Review by Clint Gage at www.godsofmusic.com |
